Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is looking into using quantum technologies in three main areas: quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum cybersecurity. These technologies will be applied to key areas like transportation, mobility systems, and smart infrastructure. The goal is to improve how intelligent systems work, speed up the shift to smart transport, and boost digital security. It also aims to better protect data, support innovation and sustainability, and prepare for the future.RTA held a special scientific workshop called “Quantum Communication and Its Applications in Smart Infrastructure”, in partnership with Cisco, a global leader in networking and cybersecurity. The event featured expert speakers in quantum communication and was attended by members of RTA’s technical and engineering teams, as well as guests from other organizations. The workshop focused on the basics of quantum communication, discussing important research and real-life uses of this new technology. It covered topics such as the goals of quantum communication, the basics of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, quantum networks, and quantum cybersecurity. Speakers also shared insights from top global research. The workshop results highlighted the importance of quantum communication as a future-focused tool in the communication field. This technology offers unmatched levels of data security and fast transmission, helping make operations smoother and improving coordination between major agencies. With this move, RTA becomes one of the first government bodies in the region to explore quantum technology in transportation. These advanced technologies could bring big changes to many industries by offering smart solutions based on quantum physics—one of the most advanced areas of science. Quantum tools are especially known for their power in security, data analysis, and high-speed computing.RTA’s efforts to use quantum technologies in transportation match the Government of Dubai’s vision for future readiness. This step shows a strong commitment to adopting secure, efficient digital tools, keeping up with global trends, and using the latest technologies to improve infrastructure and transport systems.
